How To Apply For Permission To Enter The Kingdom Of Thailand

Starting August 4, 2020 the Thai government has added new groups of foreigners to be allowed to enter the country.

NEW GROUPS OF FOREIGNERS ALLOWED ENTRY TO THAILAND

Starting August 4, 2020 the Thai government has added new groups of foreigners to be allowed to enter the country. Thai and foreign nationals who are qualified, must get in touch with the local Thai Embassy in their current location for more information.

WHO ARE QUALIFIED?

Applicants should be any of the following:

  • Thai nationals.
  • Foreigners who are holding a valid non-immigrant B visa (with Work Permit) and those with the extension of stay of Non-immigrant B visa (with Work Permit), including their spouses and children.
  • Foreigners who are granted permission (WP3) from the Ministry of Labour to work in Thailand and their families.
  • Foreigners who are holding non-immigrant D and F visas as part of the diplomatic corps and their families.
  • Foreigners who are holding non-immigrant O visas who are spouses, parents or children of Thai nationals.
  • Foreigners who hold Certificate Permanent Residence including their spouses and children.
  • Foreigners who are students of formal educational institutions approved by Thai authorities, including the parents or guardians of the students.
  • Foreigners who are in need of medical treatment in Thailand, and their attendants. However, this shall not include medical treatment for COVID–19.
  • Foreigners who are invited by the government and those who are permitted to enter the Kingdom under a special arrangement.
  • Foreign migrant workers with official documents.

WHERE TO APPLY FOR PERMISSION TO ENTER THAILAND?

The foreigner must apply for the certificate or permission of entry to Thailand from the local Thai Embassy or consulate. All requests will be forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and together with the Ministry of Labour and Board of Investment, all applications or requests will be assessed on a case to case basis, taking into account the urgency, economic importance while balancing these with health security consideration among others.

What do you have to prepare prior to traveling to Thailand?

The foreigner or non-Thai nationals must carry the necessary documents as follows:

1. Certificate of Entry (COE) issued by the Thai embassy or consulate in your current location.

2. Fit to Fly Certificate issued by relevant authority and the COVID-19 medical test result. This must be issued no longer than 72 hours before the date of travel. This certificate is also necessary at the airline’s check-in counter for a boarding pass to be issued.

3. Health Insurance Policy covering treatment and medical expenses related to COVID-19 with a minimum coverage of 100,000 USD.

HOW TO OBTAIN A CERTIFICATE OF ENTRY?

The foreigner must apply for the certificate of entry from the local Thai Embassy or consulate at least 10 working days prior to the intended date of travel and must submit the following documents to the consular section of the Thai embassy or consulate:

  • Passport
  • Original or copy of the valid work permit or Letter issued by the relevant authorities of Thailand indicating permission for entry into Thailand for work purposes (if applicable).
  • Copy of the valid non-immigrant visa or extension of stay based on the Non-immigrant visa.
  • Copy of the Health Insurance Policy covering treatment and medical expenses related to COVID-19 with a minimum coverage of 100,000 USD.
  • Copy of flight details of the intended date of travel. The Thai Embassy or Consulate may also refer you to the available repatriation flights.

WHEN DID IT START?

On July 3, 2020 the Civil Aviation Authority has partially lifted the travel ban to Thailand. The qualified foreigners may apply for the certificate of entry from their local Thai Embassy and they may now start to travel to Thailand. For other concerns about the visa and certificate of entry application, it is best to contact the local Thai Embassy or consulate in your city or country.
