LADY DRINKS, BAR FINES & MAMASANS
Beer Bars and Gogo Bars are a major component of the foreign oriented nightlife in South East Asia. In the Bars you are allowed to Bar fine the girls/hostesses that work there and take them out with to you.
The price for the Bar fine does not include drinks or anything else. You and the girl can come to an agreement on price and how long she will want to hang out with you for.
The way it works is that you walk in and take a seat. A waitress will come to ask you what you would like to drink. After ordering a drink you just hang out in the bar and the ladies will eventually come and start some small talk with you, If you feel a connection to any of them and wish to take one out, you can.
Beer bars are known to offer a more intimate and relaxed vibe than go-go bars since many of them are not that big. They usually have pool tables, sports on television and/or Youtube channel playing music on the screens.
LADY DRINKS-
Lady drinks are the term used to define a special drink that you can buy at beer bars and go-go bars. A Lady Drink always costs more than your own drink, and is considered like a tip or incentive the girl receives. It is a friendly and polite way of appreciating the hostess or bar girl. A portion of the paid amount is for the girl and the rest goes to the business. Usually the girl will sit with you and interact with you when you buy her a Lady Drink. You do not have to buy girls Lady Drinks, only do so if you want to know her more or like her and want to show her that you do. Lady drinks can cost anything from 150-250 baht.
RING THE BELL-
In almost every bar in Thailand there is a bell suspended above the bar counter, if you ring the bell you will have to buy not just the ladies but everyone in the bar a drink. If you are in a packed out bar this will be expensive.
BAR FINES-
Bar Fines are a payment you make to the business handled by the 'Mamasan' usually the owner or the appointed manager of the establishment in order for the hostess/bar girl to be able to finish for the evening and leave with you. This does not include the price for drinks or anything else which needs to be negotiated with the girl before. Go-Go Bars,
Beer Bars and Karaoke's use this term the most. Even massage girls can be Bar fined at some places. You will pay the fee (per day) and she can leave for the specified amount of days. .This is a great way to take a trip with a girl for a few days or for her to be your tour guide.
MAMASAN HOUSE RULES-
Hostess bars, Go-Go Bars and Bar Beers are easy going and great fun to be at, but there's a few things to bare in mind
1. You have to buy at least a drink and the girl one before paying the bar fine.
2. A drink for a girl will always cost more than yours whether it's a beer, whisky, shot or even a fruit juice this is because a percentage of the cost of the drink known as a 'Lady Drink' is given to the girl.
3. Don't be surprised if some establishments expect you to buy at least two or three drinks and may still not even let the girl leave with you until after midnight.
4. The girl will be expected to return the following day or the day agreed upon in time for opening hours.

The sex trade in south east asia simply cannot be ignored and it would be spurious to do so. Some estimates put the number of working girls in the region at 10 million and whatever your stance on the industry; there is no denying that this is a significant factor in tourism. The idea of working girls is quite simply, viewed differently in the East than it is in the West.
